About UAF Nanook Women's Hockey Team
Working with the University of Alaska
Fairbanks, Alaska Girls’ and Women’s Hockey Inc., and the American
Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), the University of Alaska
Women’s Ice Hockey Club has succeeded in bringing collegiate women’s
hockey to Alaska! The Alaska Nanooks Women’s Hockey will be
the first women’s collegiate team in the state to compete in the
ACHA.
For its inaugural 2009-2010 season, the team
will compete at the Division 2 level as an independent. Some
of the teams in the ACHA’s D2 division include the following

How often does the team practice?The team will practice two to three times a week during the season. Back to TopDo I have to be a full time student to play on the team?
ACHA guidelines stipulate that a Division 2 student-athlete be
enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours.

How many out of
state will the team make?
For the 2009-2010 season there will be two trips outside the state
against ACAH Division 1 and 2 teams. Back to Top
How long is the
season?

How much does
it cost to join the team?
Some of the teams expenses
are covered by players. However, the team is heavily supported by
Alaska Girls’ and Women’s Hockey Inc. and sponsors. Club dues for
this season are set at $350 per player.
Each player will also be required to solicit $500 in
sponsorships from individuals or businesses .

What experience
is necessary?
Most member of the Alaska Nanooks women's hockey team will have played at the high school level or for competitive hockey for teams such as the Alaska Icebreakers, Alaska All Stars, or TeamAlaska, others may have played some collegiate hockey. Back to Top
Can I play on
the team part time?
Hockey is a team sport which requires all players to be at practice and games. To play on the team you must commit to being a full time participant.
